  1. POWERBBS FOR WINDOWS INSTALLATION

  3. To install from a hard disk:
  4.  
  5. 1. Create a temporary directory (C:\TEMP)
  6. 2. Unzip archives (*.ZIP) into this temporary directory
  7. 3. Run setup
  8.    a. From Program Manager select File, Run, or in Windows 95, select Start, Run.
  9.    b. Enter C:\TEMP\SETUP.EXE (or the appropriate directory)
  10.    b. Click OK

  12. To install from floppies
  13.  
  14. 1. Put disk 1 into your disk drive
  15. 2. Select File, Run from Program Manager
  16. 3. Type A:\SETUP.EXE or B:\SETUP.EXE
  17. 4. Click OK
  18.

  20. You will see a screen with two options for install: Full or Upgrade.
  21.  
  22. UPGRADES
  23. --------
  24. If you are installing PowerBBS over ANY other version
  25. of PowerBBS, then use the Upgrade Option. PowerBBS will only 
  26. overwrite those program files (EXE, DLL) that need to be replaced. 
  27. Your existing screens, forums, file lists, etc. will not be touched.
  28. Upgrading is totally safe. However, do NOT pick FULL INSTALL if 
  29. you have already installed a prior version of PowerBBS.

  32. IMPORTANT: No PowerBBS related program may be running during
  33. installation. It is best if you reboot your PC before installing 
  34. PowerBBS. To avoid Windows loading programs in your Startup group
  35. or folder, hold down the RIGHT-SHIFT key while Windows is starting.
  36. If you experience any odd problems when starting PowerBBS for the first
  37. time, reboot Windows. This will ensure that all memory areas are 
  38. cleared.

  41. FULL INSTALL
  42. ------------
  43. If you are installing PowerBBS for the first time,
  44. select Full Install, which is checked by default. This will install 
  45. PowerBBS and all of its related screens, files, etc.

  47. On this first screen, the install program displays the drive and path
  48. FROM which you are installing PowerBBS. If this information is correct,
  49. click OK. If for some reason it is not, enter the correct information 
  50. (A:\, C:\TEMP, etc.) and click OK.

  52. Next, you are asked the hard drive on which PowerBBS is to be installed.
  53. Enter your hard drive letter (C:\, D:\, etc) in this text box and 
  54. click OK (PowerBBS will create all the directories it needs).
  55.  
  56. Let the installation run. When it is complete, you will have a
  57. program group called PowerBBS. First, read the NOTES file. If you 
  58. have any questions, read the FAQ.HLP file.
